Tonight I had to drive home from work in the absolute worst thunder storm I’ve ever seen. I watched a wall of clouds one increment of blue away from total black roll in overhead and the wind pick up and turn cold, then two minutes after I got in the car and started driving, the rain started coming down like it wanted to reach through my windshield and steal my lifebreath. Lightning/thunder was cracking over my head, and I kept thinking about the golfball-sized hail reported when this storm system was still an hour west of us, and every time lightning flashed I looked around for a funnel cloud, and my animal brain was 50% convinced I was going to die. 50% is a lot when we’re talking about legitimate total fear that you will die in the next twenty minutes.
Anyway. After ten minutes the storm lightened up, then about five minutes later the rain lightened up, and it was just normal-thunderstorm-level, and I felt a bit foolish but also slightly exhilarated, like when you ride a roller-coaster and afterward feel in some small way like you cheated death. Or maybe that’s just me.
Derwin FINALLY MOVED AWAY. I hope someone good moves in. Maybe a snooty personality - I don’t have any snooty neighbors.
I keep thinking today would be good to bake a cake and eat pizza. Sadly neither will happen.
